Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The fifth book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is titled Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Harry is in his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when the story takes place. This summary will provide you an outline of the main plot points as this book is almost 257,000 words long.
Harry Potter is at the Dursleys for yet another dismal summer as the story starts. However, things go south when he is ambushed by two Dementors in the Muggle settlement of Little Whinging. Harry uses the Patronus spell to defend himself, but he is later expelled from Hogwarts for employing magic in front of non-magical people. Fortunately, Harry is later found not guilty of any accusations, and his expulsion is lifted.
Upon his return to Hogwarts, Harry discovers that the Ministry of Magic has interfered with the institution by selecting Dolores Umbridge as a new instructor of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Umbridge is a nasty and spiteful woman who insists that the students only learn from their textbook and won't teach them any real defensive spells. Harry and his classmates decide to join "Dumbledore's Army," a covert organization where Harry instructs his other pupils in self-defense, in order to take matters into their own hands.
Meanwhile, disturbing visions of Voldemort, the Dark Lord, and his Death Eaters are disturbing Harry. He also experiences strange sensations that he believes are coming from Voldemort. As Harry battles these unsettling sights and emotions, he grows more and more distant from his companions Ron and Hermione.
The tyranny of Umbridge's control grows as the school year goes on. She forbids a number of student organizations and topics, such as Divination and the care of magical creatures. Harry and his pals start openly opposing Umbridge while still having covert meetings with Dumbledore's Army.
Harry sees in a vision that Voldemort has Sirius Black and is torturing him in the midst of all this. In an effort to save Sirius, Harry and his pals dash to the Ministry of Magic, but they are ambushed by Death Eaters. The group is forced to fight for their life when a war breaks out. In the end, they succeed in saving Sirius, but they also lose one of their own, Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius's cousin.
Dumbledore ultimately visits Hogwarts as the academic year comes to an end and confronts Umbridge. Dumbledore is successful in outwitting Umbridge and ejecting her from the school in a spectacular duel. Dumbledore, however, also admits to Harry that he has been avoiding him due of his growing concern over Harry's ties to Voldemort. Harry is cautioned by Dumbledore to stay away from Voldemort and to use caution moving forward.
At the book's conclusion, Harry and his buddies are on their way home for the summer. Harry is left with a feeling of dread about the future and the knowledge that he could have to face Voldemort once more.
The risks of government surveillance and propaganda, the strength of friendship and devotion, and the conflict between good and evil are just a few of the significant topics that are tackled throughout the novel. The growth of Harry's character is particularly noteworthy; he faces challenges, matures, and changes in his interactions with Ron and Hermione.
The final book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is an exciting and complex book that goes further into the wizarding world and establishes the plot for the last two books.
